About IEC Dakotas

Our History

IEC Dakotas began in 1947 as the Dakota Electrical Association, formed to standardize and modernize the electrical contracting industry in South Dakota. The association joined the national Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) in the 1980s, and united with North Dakota in the late 1980s — becoming the two-state chapter that serves contractors and apprentices across the Dakotas today.
